About Swimetrica

Swimetrica gathers race results from national federations worldwide, adjusts them for age, sex and pool type, and models how swimmers develop and which clubs and coaches improve them — publishing every estimate with its uncertainty, its method and its date.

Who reads this

Federation performance directors, club coaches, sports scientists, and swimmers and their families read the same pages here, in the same words. A figure that a coach reads for a selection decision and a parent reads at midnight after a meet is printed with the same interval, the same model version and the same date for both. What changes for a reader new to the interval is not the words but the entry point: reading a single estimate, worked through starts from one figure and builds up; the vocabulary is the same terms defined once, for looking a word up rather than reading in order.

What independence means here

Independence here means the institute does not sell rankings, does not accept payment to include or exclude a swimmer, club or federation, and publishes its funding. It also means something less comfortable: the same federations that supply the race results have clubs and coaches rated by the coach effect estimator. We don’t soften an estimate because the subject supplied our data — every figure carries the same interval no matter where the results came from.

What we publish

Every estimate comes with its interval, the method that produced it, the date it was computed, the population it was computed over, and what was left out and why. The interval is printed at the same size as the number it belongs to — we don’t shrink it, grey it out, or tuck it into a tooltip. A rank appears only next to the evidence for or against the order it shows. We don’t publish a number on its own.

Corrections

Figures change when the record changes or a method improves. Every change is published as a dated correction — see corrections for the two on record, including the men’s 100 m backstroke recomputation on 2026-08-20 that widened intervals for short-course-only swimmers and moved two pairs into one indistinguishability group. The superseded figures stay at their original addresses, marked as superseded.
